“Keep your eyes on Me, child.” I can hear God whisper to me in the quiet stillness of my heart. When I get anxious, preoccupied, or so busy I can’t think straight, I remember God’s desire for me to return to Him. He’s an incredibly patient God, fully understanding of our busy schedules, but He longs to hear from us, so He can do great work in us. “For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).

Today, I was reflecting on how I could see more of God in my everyday life. Because the truth is, God is all around us. Creation itself reflects God’s nature: “For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16).

Our busy days can distract us from God, filled as they are with human affairs––work, relationships, hobbies, travel, and so on. But if every human is “created in the image of God,” and if every visible and invisible thing on heaven or on earth reflects His image, we can easily find glimpses of God in our everyday life.

In this article, we’ll dive into Scripture to explore how we can live each day with more presence, peace, and admiration of God, setting our eyes on His goodness.

 

 

Where Are You, God?

That’s a good question! Let’s ask Him.

  • Joshua 1:9: Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
  • Psalm 47:8: “God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.” 
  • Psalm 115:3: “Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases”.
  • Matthew 28:20: “And behold, I am always with you, to the end of the age.”
  • 1 John 4:16: “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”

God is everywhere in the present––omnipresent. Therefore, He can be found everywhere on Heaven or Earth, as He is not limited by space or time. If you’re asking where God is, just look in front of you. He is with you right now!

Don’t be afraid, for God loves you. He created you, after all. If you ask God to reveal Himself in the days and weeks to come, don’t be surprised when He shows up. He loves to surprise and delight those who love Him. One of the best ways we can find God in our everyday life is simply to ask Him. “Hey God, can You reveal yourself to me? Please allow the Holy Spirit to give me eyes to see and ears to hear Your goodness in my everyday life.”

 

 

God in Everyday Life

1. Nature

God’s handiwork is incredible. Take a look outside, if you can. Whether you see a tree, a bird, or a beautiful sky, reflect on the architecture of God’s world. It’s immense, indescribable, and infinitely detailed. Every blade of grass, every flower, and every creature was originally created for our enjoyment. I’m someone who loves to stop and smell the roses, and I believe God intended it this way, for I’m breathing in His goodness too.

2. Daily Tasks

Every day is an opportunity to serve God, love Him, and love others. There is no task too small to bring God into. Often, the best way we can see God is when we work for His Kingdom, whether that’s at our day job, through volunteering, or simply helping a friend. In this way, our daily tasks are no miniature feat; they can be massive ways for us to bring God’s Kingdom into the lives of others. In turn, we will experience God’s presence when we reflect on His goodness.

3. Relationships

There are God-given qualities, strengths, and idiosyncrasies in all of the people we love. From a dimple on their face, to the way they laugh or the sound of their voice, we can delight in our fellow human beings. We are all made perfectly unique. And when we see Godly qualities in each other––whether it’s compassion, kindness, humility, or love––we can rejoice at God’s work in our hearts. If we’re called to reflect on the good things on Earth, let us reflect on this: “What a beautiful world it is with wonderful people in it. Thank you to all who love me!”

4. Trials and Challenges

Life is filled with trials and tribulations. If you are loving authentically, you can’t avoid deep hurt. It is an inevitable part of life. When you are in a season of struggle––whether it’s due to anxiety, fear, financial struggle, loneliness, or relational strain––”cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). God deeply love us and seeks to mend our broken hearts. Rest assured, if you are seeking God, you will find him in your seasons of struggle. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). There is no challenge in your life too great for God!

5. You!

You are incredible! God’s given you so many wonderful qualities. One of the best ways to encounter God in your daily life is to bring Him to mind. Talk with Him about your day, dedicate time to prayer each day, and meditate on God’s goodness in your life. Often, a great way to see God at work is to notice the changes in our own hearts. When we speak love, act compassionately, carry ourselves with integrity, and exhibit great patience, we are reflecting God’s heart.

Set Aside Personal Time to Honor God

Set aside time for God––anytime, anywhere! Whether it’s praying in the driver’s seat of your car, reading your Bible on your lunch break, or blasting worship music at home, you can honor Him wherever you are. Here are some of the most significant ways we can honor God in our everyday life:

1. Worship

God loves to hear your voice. Talk to Him, sing to Him, praise Him, or simply enjoy His company. Worship and praise doesn’t need to be loud or public––it’s all about connecting with God in your heart. Whether you’re singing in your mind or out loud, don’t be afraid to express your love for Him!

2. Prayer

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools we have as Christians. When we pray, we shake the enemy’s plans and dispel darkness. Prayer gives us strength through Jesus Christ to gain ground over the enemy. If you’re searching for God, seek Him through prayer––express your gratitude, ask for guidance, and boldly share your needs and the needs of others. If your prayers align with His will, He will answer. And remember, prayer is a two-way conversation––take time to listen and hear His voice as well!

3. Scripture

Studying God’s Word helps us draw closer to Him and stand firm against the attacks of the enemy. If you want to experience God’s goodness, start by filling your mind and heart with Scripture. “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). Meditating on His truths empowers us to live according to His will.

4. Service

We often encounter God’s heart directly when we serve others. Whether it’s offering a helping hand, holding a door, saying a kind word, or bringing small gifts to your workplace, these acts of service can brighten someone’s day and remind them of God’s love. When we step out to serve, God encourages us in return, and we experience His heart more deeply.

5. Gratitude

Never underestimate the power of simply saying, “Thank You, God.” Take a moment to express your gratitude for the beautiful things you see and experience in your day. There’s always something to be thankful for, and a heart full of gratitude honors God in every moment.

 

Set Your Mind on His Good Things

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

When I first came to Christ, the simplicity of this verse made so much sense to me. I’d always admired those who lived glass-half-full despite their circumstances––those who maintained an optimistic heart, showering peace, joy, and provision into all of their relationships, no matter their present difficulties. This beautiful heart posture is God-given.

When we seek God, we experience an abundance of fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In our own strength, we are unable to bring about God’s true virtues. Thankfully, Philippians 4:8 gives us a great roadmap on how to search for God. For when we set our eyes, mind, heart, soul, and spirit on His excellent and praiseworthy creations, we see God in our everyday life!

Today, I challenge you to set your eyes on God’s beautiful gifts on Earth––whether those are people, places, or things.

 

 

A Prayer Before You Go

“God, I pray that You would open the eyes of my reader to see Your goodness in their everyday life. Help them to recognize Your presence in the small moments, the ordinary tasks, and the relationships they cherish. May they experience Your peace, love, and grace in every aspect of their day. Guide them to seek You, even in the busyness and chaos, and fill their heart with a deeper awareness of Your constant care and faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
