God is a God of redemption. There is nothing He can’t do. There is no problem He can’t solve. There is no obstacle He can’t overcome. In our darkest times, it is easy to question His will for our lives. “God, are you there?” We cry out. “Please, help me!” But even in these moments, we know God is sovereign over the Earth. In fact, He hears every plea, petition, and longing that crosses our mind. As Scripture reminds us, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18).

When we call out to our Heavenly Father, He comes to us. And when we whisper in our hearts, messages of sorrow, fear, and pain, He binds our wounds and bears our burdens. Why? Because our Heavenly Father loves us. And with Him all things are possible, including the things we long for most: love, fulfillment, peace of mind, strength, purpose, and hope. In this article, we’ll dive into the all-encompassing promise of Matthew 19:26: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

A Gentle Reminder

He is There in The Peaks and Valleys

God is there for you, helping you rise to the highest points of your life––your “peaks”––and navigate the lowest points of your life––your “valleys.” There is no “high” too high for God or “low” too low for God. He is there to comfort in all circumstances, meeting you where you are to help you become who He has always intended you to be.

God mourns for those who don’t come to Him, for He longs to heal and restore them. He sees a bright future for each of us and desperately wants to share His vision with us. But it can be hard to reach us. Many times in the Bible, God laments that we don’t listen to Him. This is reaffirmed by Jesus, who points out that people have difficulty understanding His heart:

  • Jeremiah 7:24: “But they did not listen or pay attention; instead, they followed the stubborn inclinations of their evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.”

  • Matthew 13:15: “For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.”

God wants us to listen to Him because He wants us to do good in our lives, so we may share our love and blessings with others. To live out God’s will for our lives, we must seek God’s plan for our lives, keep His commandments, and love and serve one another as He loves and serves us.

His Steadfast Love

God Lovingly Instructs His Children

God makes no mistakes. When He declares something good, it is good. And when He warns against evil, it is evil. God uses His wisdom for our good, but He calls His children to walk with Him. He needs us to engage in daily conversation, introspection, and study of scripture to arm ourselves against the weapons which form against us. Weapons not of this world, but of the spiritual forces of evil. Weapons which sow seeds of strife, feed upon violence and division, and squander love and truth in favor of apathy and confusion.

As Ephesians 6:12 reminds us, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Thankfully, God reigns above it all. He promises to protect us. He instructs us on how to put on His Armor–—truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God—–to triumph over the forces of darkness. God desires to partner with us, but it is up to us to meet Him halfway with an open heart.

God Gives Hope for a Brighter Future

God’s grace is sufficient. He will not abandon you. He will turn every trial, every evil thing, into good for those who love Him: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:28). God knows our circumstances are difficult, especially when we’re blinded to the outcomes. He knows we despair over our lack of control. But He says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). Believe this, and hold it close to your heart.

God has plans to prosper you, to give you hope and a future. But His good plans unfold in His perfect timing. His plans may not look the way you’d like them to look. They may not happen as quickly as you’d like. But they are always in your best interest.

The Wisdom of Matthew 19:26

Believers must abide in God to know God. To abide means to come into accordance with Him, listening to and obeying His instructions. In Matthew 19:16-26, Jesus shows that abiding in God goes beyond merely following His commandments. To abide in Him requires us to fully trust His will for our lives. Reflect on the passage below and consider Jesus’ teachings to the wealthy young ruler. Though the wealthy young ruler kept God’s commandments, he exalted his material possessions above all else. Jesus encourages the young man to follow Him, but the man was not ready to make this leap of faith.

God knows we often choose the fleeting comforts of the world over His eternal will. He forgives us out of His grace for our mistakes, hindrances, and shortcomings, but He wishes us to live in accordance to His great plans for our lives. He wishes for us to trust Him, follow Him, and love Him. But remember, when we fall short, Jesus looked at his disciples and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

18 “Which ones?” he inquired.

Jesus replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”

21 Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

22 When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.

23 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly I tell you, it is hard for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”

26 Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

With God All Things Are Possible

God intends good things for His children. The Bible is a long story of God’s involvement in generations of people who know Him, follow Him, and love Him. He wishes to know you, too. If your faith in Him is faltering, please fight back! Remember that He’s shown up time and time again for his beloved children. Take a look at the verses below to refresh your memory.

  • God created the universe, laying the foundation for all life and existence (Genesis 1:1-3)
  • God enabled Sarah, past the age of childbearing, to conceive and give birth to her son, Isaac (Genesis 18:10-14)
  • God parted the Red Sea, enabling the Israelites’ escape from Egypt (Exodus 14:21-22)
  • God provided daily manna from heaven to sustain the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16:4-36)
  • God provided bread, meat, and water for Elijah through ravens (1 Kings 17:2-16)
  • God saved Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace of King Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 3:16-30)
  • God miraculously protected Daniel from the lions (Daniel 6:16-23)
  • God restored Job’s fortunes after immense hardship (Job 42:10-17)
  • God orchestrated the birth of His Son by the Holy Spirit by Mary (Luke 1:26-37)
  • Jesus restored sight to a man born blind (John 9:1-7)
  • Jesus fed 5,000 with just five loaves of bread and two fish (John 6:5-13)
  • Jesus healed a paralyzed man (Mark 2:1-12)
  • Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (John 11:38-44)
  • God raised Jesus from the dead, affirming His power over death and the ultimate victory over sin (Matthew 28:1-10)
  • God sent an angel to free Peter from prison (Acts 12:6-11)
  • God transformed Saul, a former persecutor of Christians, into a passionate follower of Christ (Acts 9:1-19)

We can count on God to help us. We will witness His good works in our lives. We must trust him to help us in our darkest times, as well as in our times of victory. Today, I ask you to trust that God can work miracles in your life. For with God all things are possible!
