Proper Food is a great quick-fix for lunch, offering a variety of authentic, wholesome foods at a reasonable price. From their Smoked Salmon Open-Faced Sandwich to the Quinoa Beet Pesto Salad, you’ll find a wide variety of raw, vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, as well as protein-filled options for those who eat fish or meat.
The Proper Food Philosophy
Based in the Financial District of San Francisco, Proper Food believes that whole, local, and organic food is the best fare to eat on-the-go. Each shop prepares their food every morning to ensure that each package is fresh and donates all unsold meals to local food banks at night. Proper Food also sources sustainable seafood from the Pacific and ships artisanal veggies, fruits and dairy from nearby family farms.
What to Order at Proper Food
Their menu features a variety of breakfast options, sandwiches, wraps, soups, salads, rolls, entrées, desserts, and juices! Out of all these options, here are my top three selections:
-
Chinese Tofu Salad
I love this salad made with citrus-miso organic tofu, marcona almonds, sesame seeds, crispy wontons, navel oranges, romaine, and house-made sesame and green onion dressing. One large salad is $11.95 and extremely filling.
-
Salmon Teriyaki
Another great option is the Salmon Teriyaki with fresh poached salmon, brown rice, broccoli, sugar snap peas, nori, and teriyaki sauce. This meal is $12.95 and has a large amount of protein.
-
Lemon Quinoa Salad
For those who are interested in a vegan dish, I’d recommend the Lemon Quinoa Salad. Other good vegan options include Proper Food’s Quinoa Beet Pesto and Tofu Sping Rolls.
Grab-and-Go Philosophy
As you can see, the idea of the restaurant is to grab-and-go fresh items. The fridges are stocked with a ton of delicious options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert. Don’t forget to grab a superfood, energy, or detox juice to pair with your entrée!
