1. Athens, Greece

Constructed in the 4th century, Athens is Europe’s oldest capital. Growing up, I used to love reading mythological books about the gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece: Zeus (God of the Sky), Poseidon (God of the Sea), Ares (God of War), Athena (Goddess of Wisdom), and so on. When you visit the Acropolis–the mythical home of the Gods–you will feel those stories come to life. From visiting the Parthenon to the Ancient Agora of Athens, there are plenty of opportunities to stand up close and personal with historical artifacts from Ancient Greece.

2. Alghero, Italy

Alghero is a quaint town on the northwestern coast of Sardinia–an island off of the west coast of Italy. The city is surprisingly quiet and has not yet become overcrowded with tourists. Alghero is the perfect place to rent a moped, relax on stunning beaches, and practice Italian with locals. If you are looking for a laid-back vacation in a hot climate, this island getaway is worth a visit.

3. Antelope Canyon, Arizona

There’s a reason this destination has become so popular in recent years–the canyon is breathtakingly beautiful. Formed by the erosion of Navajo Sandstone, Antelope Canyon has slowly widened over hundreds of years. Today, you can take a guided Navajo tour through the slot canyon to see the smooth, vertical, winding walls.

Curaçao is located 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea. Since Curaçao was influenced by Dutch colonial rule, the city of Willemstad has many of the same architectural features as Amsterdam. Willemstad is the perfect place to vacation if you are looking for hot year-round weather, gorgeous beaches, and adrenaline-pumping activities. When I visited, I could rent a car to see the island’s National Park, hitch a ride with Eric’s ATV Adventures, and go horseback riding at Rancho Alegre.

Pompeii is a must-see historical site. I was awe-struck while walking through the ruins of this 2,000-year-old city. It’s a chilling thought to know that the exact Earth you are walking on is the distant aftermath of Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in 79 A.D, which enveloped the city in ash. When you visit Pompeii, you can see the historical temples, city squares, and artifacts of a once-prosperous city.

Zermatt holds a special place in my heart because I was able to visit the Matterhorn at the same age my grandmother did in 1959. Whether you come to site-see or ski, there’s no question why Zermatt is called the “Jewel of the Swiss Alps.”

Santorini is a part of the South Aegean Volcanic Arc, formed over 3,000 years ago during the “Minoan eruption.” When I visited Santorini, I was able to rent an ATV to explore the entire island. After driving around the winding coasts, seeing a black sand beach, and relaxing in Oia, I fell in love with the island’s pastel blue ocean views.

When my dad was growing up, he used to look at picture books of the Great Barrier Reef and dream about seeing it for himself. He told me: “As a kid, I always wanted to have that opportunity, but it was not possible. Now, as an adult, I finally can go.” Thankfully, my family was able to experience this trip together. My trip to the Great Barrier Reef was one of my most memorable trips. Picture this: scuba diving four times a day, slowly floating alongside a massive coral wall nearly 80 feet underwater, swimming with the sharks at night, and rocking to sleep in a boat’s cot. If you love scuba diving, visiting the Great Barrier Reef is the way to go.

10. Kralendijk, Bonaire

Bonaire is a small island in the Leeward Antilles of the Caribbean Sea, east of Curaçao. Bonaire has a laid-back atmosphere and many outdoor activities, including mangrove kayaking, horseback rides, and land-sailing adventures.
