1. Indie Lee

Indie Lee has committed to nontoxic and eco-friendly practices by using glass bottles and jars whenever possible, eco-friendly packaging with FSC-certified paper, and Leaping Bunny-certified product formulas.

2. Drunk Elephant
Designed, tested, and made in the United States, Drunk Elephant’s products are free of the “Suspicious 6,” or “essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical sunscreens, fragrances/dyes, and SLS” in their products. Drunk Elephant’s products also avoid fragrances, which can potentially irritate your skin, and are certified cruelty-free by Leaping Bunny.

3. Tata Harper
Tata Harper says, “Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do here.” Designed and manufactured in Vermont, Tata Harper’s formulas are 100% natural and completely biodegradable. Moreover, Tata Harper’s packaging comprises glass or 100% recyclable bio-based sugarcane plastic. As for the product’s cartons, they are made with certified paper from sustainably managed forests.

4. Osea Malibu
Osea Malibu is another one of my favorite brands that delivers safe and non-toxic skincare. To read more about their products, check out my review of Osea here. According to Osea’s website, “In 2002, OSEA became the first company to sign The Compact for Global Production of Safe Health and Beauty Products, an initiative from the Environmental Working Group.” This initiative sought to eliminate chemicals in beauty products known or suspected to cause cancer, mutation, or birth defects. OSEA’s products are also PETA vegan certified and Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certified.

5. 100% Pure
Each Earth Day, 100% Pure has planted a tree for every product sold. As of 2018, 100% Pure has planted 19,283 trees so far with Trees for the Future. Solar panels also power 100% of Pure’s headquarters. Their business was awarded the San Jose Green Certificate for environmental sustainability. As for 100% Pure’s products are fully biodegradable, encased in recyclable packaging, and shipped in biodegradable cornstarch packing peanuts.

6. Kahina Giving Beauty
In 2016, Kahina won the Madrid Award for Sustainability in the “Premium and Luxury Sectors.” The founder of Kahina Beauty, Katharine L’Heureux, graduated from my alma mater, UC Berkeley, and proceeded to focus on natural and sustainable food and beauty brands. Kahina’s products are certified by Leaping Bunny and ECOCERT, which has rigorous standards including “sustainable sourcing of raw materials, responsible manufacturing procedures and environmentally-friendly final packaging.”

7. True Botanicals
True Botanicals’ products are made without the 5,000+ known toxic ingredients on the market. Instead, they contain certified-organic and wild-harvested ingredients. Also, all of True Botanicals’ products are in glass or aluminum, which can be recycled, unlike plastic which takes 1,000 years to degrade in landfills.

8. Herbivore Botanicals
Herbivore’s formulas are bottled in 100% recyclable glass bottles instead of plastic whenever possible. Each product is free from unnatural preservatives and formulated with high-quality, organic ingredients. Herbivore’s external packaging is also made from biodegradable ingredients.

Look no further if you’re looking for clean bath and body products. All of Lush’s plastics are BPA-free and 100% post-consumer recycled. Lush also offers a recycling program to reduce packaging waste. The company also only sells cruelty-free products.

Last on the list is RMS Beauty–a natural makeup and skincare brand made with organic ingredients. If you go to their website, you can instantly find a list of all the ingredients used in their products. Packaging for RMS Beauty products is also recyclable or reusable.
