About Black Velvet

“After a long day of skiing, black velvet coffee is the perfect place to stop.”

Black Velvet Coffee was founded in 2008 and opened its espresso bar in Mammoth Lakes in 2011. The mission of Black Velvet Coffee is to roast amazing coffees with excellence and consistency. To fulfill their mission, they primarily focus on roasting Organic, Rain Forest Alliance, Micro Lot, Fair Trade, and Direct Trade coffees.

Each month, Black Velvet features four coffees from various small farms. Each bag of coffee is roasted fresh per order in Mammoth Lakes, California at 8000ft. If you are staying in Mammoth, consider grabbing a bag of beans from Black Velvet to brew up in your cozy cabin.

Pastries + Sweets

If you are in the mood for something sweet, Black Velvet also has a selection of local pastries and waffles to order. If you are vegan or gluten-free, don’t worry! There are plenty of options for you. To get the best pick of the pastries, stop by earlier in the day when they are fresh.

Great Working Space + Top-Notch Service

“Black velvet coffee nailed the interior and working space for a ski town coffee shop.”

As for the shop, the space has a clean and industrial feel. The beautiful three-floor interior allows for plenty of room. The first floor is the cafe, the second floor contains a wine bar, and the third-floor functions as a study space.

The service is also top-notch. The baristas will chat with you while making your drink, allowing you to see the entire process yourself.

“Everything is in-house, so it has more craftsmanship. The baristas are great, too.”

Black Velvet is the ideal spot for coffee lovers. Their mission reflects the values of the third-wave coffee movement, led by consumers and manufacturers to consume, enjoy, and appreciate high-quality coffee.

Pull over and check out Black Velvet’s delicious drinks if you are driving down Main Street to ski or snowboard at Mammoth Mountain. You won’t be disappointed!

XO, Kim
